Sound Scene’s Pulses
Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC
DESCRIPTION
"Pulses," is a 45-minute biofeedback music workshop where participants have the opportunity to activate the rhythms of the heart and mind to create a wholly original symphony. Up to six participants per workshop utilize EEG headsets, with facilitation from multi-disciplinary artist Jason Snell, to trigger unique sounds based on brain activity and heart rate. Together, the group will weave neural rhythms, synchronizing to create new pulse-driven music. As a special part of Sound Scene’s 2024 Solstice-themed festival, this workshop illuminates what is thriving in darkness – internal rhythms that can be used to connect internally and with one another. Following the session, participants have the opportunity to reflect on the interplay of neural activity, heart rhythms, and body-composed music, and how it can help amplify the concepts of collective creativity. "Pulses" pioneers the integration of heart and mind in artistic expression, offering a glimpse into a future of collaborative composition and interactive performance that bridges art, science, and human experience. Join us in this transformative workshop - a symphony of hearts and minds!
