    Ezra Bell

Ezra Bell was founded by Benjamin Wuamett and friends late in the summer of 2013. It was warm enough to sit on the porch into the evening and learn a couple of songs. A lap drum, a banjo and an out-of-tune guitar. Since then the cast of characters involved have moved around a bit. Having just finished their eighth studio album, they’ll wander around a bit and see if anyone likes it.

    Bikini Drone

Bikini Drone plays a blend of world-spy pop, tropical soul, and desert rocking disco you can dance to, bringing an equal measure of song craft and live improvisation.

    Horse Lords

Almost all bands do it backward and upside-down. They start with years of playing live, creating their music in the crucible of performance with all of its impurities and in-the-moment inspirations, before committing said music to a recording that fixes it into an ostensible, exemplary form that eternally serves as an ultimate reference. And then maybe, someday, a few albums down the road, when the tours are shorter and less frequent and the cupboard is looking a little bare, they excavate and massage some favorite board recordings into a live album to fill a gap in some capitalist imagining of “career.”

Horse Lords are not like most bands. The Baltimore-founded, now internationally dispersed quartet puts performance at the center of its practice and approaches the studio as an entirely separate tool. The band’s intricate, polyrhythmic music is tightly composed and complex, leaving little room for improvisation. But elements of chance in Horse Lords’ music make it sometimes unpredictable in the moment, even to the musicians. After the pandemic forced the band to work more deliberately in the studio in composing and recording their most recent album, Comradely Objects, it felt right to assemble some recordings that both capture their galvanic performance attack and subtly interrogate the artifact of the “live album.”

As It Happened: Horse Lords Live, then, both is and isn’t the expected live set. It does capture Andrew Bernstein (saxophone, percussion, electronics),  Owen Gardner (guitar, electronics), Sam Haberman (drums), and Max Eilbacher (bass, electronics) playing pieces familiar from their studio albums, as captured at a series of concerts across Europe spanning their multiple 2022 and 2023 tours. As It Happened  is a mediated, sometimes obviously edited presentation of a live performance that strives for a certain level of idealization. The album “makes the present infinitely repeatable,” says the band, “like a painting of a crashing wave can evoke an experience while being of a fundamentally different substance.”

Inspired in part by recordings such as Miles Davis’s heavily collaged and studio-manipulated album run from Live/Evil through to Dark Mag, the “non-documentary” art-rock supergroup album 801 Live, and even Grateful Dead’s Live Dead, Horse Lords assembled these performances in part to “convey the artifice required to make a live record sound ‘live,’” the band continues. “[It] doesn’t go far enough but hopefully can act as an invitation to think about these things.”

Their performances and installations integrate electrical signals and human presence, weaving dense networks of causality to form audiovisual environments that babble and flicker with a life-like current.

It all started with a trumpet. New Body Electric brings the groove with self-produced tracks (baked fresh & organic in Portland, OR) that will make you want to dance. Exploring the worlds of disco, funk, and electropop, their live set is full of surprises with trumpets breakdown, dreamy guitar solos, and beefy bass hooks.

“The synths soar across galaxies, the vocal hooks know exactly when to lean into a vocoder, and there’s even a guitar solo.” - Vinyl Moon

    Left On Tenth

Left On Tenth is a 5-piece indie rock band based out of Portland, Oregon. Their catalog ranges from distorted rock ballads, to horn-driven latin grooves, to up-tempo ska tunes, to folky feel-good songs. From pants-down horn solos to crowd antics LOT will leave you dancing, smiling, or at least with an ear worm. The main goal of their show is to have the most fun possible.

    King Dream

King Dream is a Bay Area rock ‘n’ roll band helmed by Oakland native Jeremy Lyon, a lifelong songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who crafts dive bar anthems with heart, brains and soul. Hard-rocking yet poignant, his music combines a love for American rock masters like Springsteen and Petty with ‘60s West Coast psychedelia and more contemporary torch-bearers like My Morning Jacket and The War on Drugs — all brought to life by a band of Northern California’s most in-demand players.

    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
The Tree Frogs, organic rock pioneers of Portland’s East Side Sound, played over 500 shows and travelled over 60,000 miles in 1990s, touring constantly in the US and Europe in support of 3 full length releases: Tree Frogs Live! (1994), Leap Year (1996), Live at the Laurelthirst (1997). Despite selling out 1000 seat venues on tour, the road took its toll and the band went on hiatus in late 1997.

In 2000, the jam band favorites returned to the stage, playing local venues and festivals throughout the Northwest, including a Happy Hour residency at the Laurelthirst Public House from 2006-2015. They sold out their 25th Anniversary show in 2017 and are excited to perform for the first time in 7 years with their iconic 90’s lineup.

“We are family,” says John Henry Bourke, singer songwriter and rhythm guitarist in the band. “What started out in a basement took us all around the world, and we want to
celebrate a lifetime of playing music together. These days, we all have different projects and adult lives so it is really hard to find a date that works for all of us. But after all
these years, there is still some magic when the Tree Frogs take the stage. “

In the last two years, the Tree Frogs lost valued members of their family. Prior members Bob Wallace and Charlie Nanos died in 2023, and recently saxophone player Rob
Matthews lost his wife Knirke to cancer. The band is dedicating this show to her.

Bourke says, “When someone close to you dies, you realize every moment is a gift, our time together is short, and we need to make the most of our lives while we are able. Knirke was such a shining light, who brought a sense of joy and wonder to living and she wanted a giant dance party in her memory. We aim to honor her request as best we can. This show will be an amazing celebration.”

Beyond their lives in the Tree Frogs, individual band members have gone on to write, record and perform together and separately in many other bands: Funk Shui, Cooper and the Jam, John Henry Band, Old Flames, Kris Delane and the Hurt, Hammerhead, Britnee Kellogg,Concrete Cowboys, and others.

There is a question at the heart of “Faith Crisis Pt 1”, the third album from Sydney’s emotive indie trio Middle Kids. Over 13 propulsive, ecstatic and gorgeous tracks, songwriter and vocalist Hannah Joy attempts to tease out the question of belief; the breaking of it, and how it is rebuilt.

Co-produced by Tim Fitz and Jonathan Gilmore (The 1975, Beabadoobee), Joy and bandmates Fitz and Harry Day masterfully express the sensation of being overwhelmed, swept up and dragged down in songs that exalt and lift you higher.

“Faith Crisis Pt 1” is brimming with yearning, angst, pop brightness, belief in love and reassurance that even from the bottom, it’s possible to believe in beautiful things.

Middle Kids’ last album Today We’re The Greatest won Best Rock Album at the 2021 ARIA Awards. Released at the height of the pandemic, the album garnered the band several US TV show performances including Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and The Late, Late Show with James Cordon.

Middle Kids first gained attention in 2017 with their debut single, Edge Of Town and their debut album, Lost Friends, which won Triple J’s Best Australian Album Award in 2018. The success of their albums has also earned the band an international touring profile which has included supporting shows with the likes of Bloc Party, Kings of Leon, War on Drugs and Cold War Kids and festivals such as The Governors Ball, Lollapalooza, Osheaga Festival and many more.

w/ Nonbinary Girlfriend & Bug Seance

Maia Sinaiko and Susanna Thomson like to joke that they are delusional about Sour Widows, the Bay Area band they started seven years ago that is just now releasing its entrancing and powerful debut LP, ‘Revival of a Friend’. In those seven years, Sinaiko and Thomson each endured losses and hardships that at times required putting bigger plans on hold; looking back, they can only laugh at these hurdles and wonder if they should have taken them as signs—to stop, to start over, to succumb to the hardship.

Absolutely not: Sour Widows has served as an essential outlet for Sinaiko, Thomson, and drummer Max Edelman, a way to process real-time woes so as to transmute them into something beautiful, useful, real, and lasting. It has been an anchor, too, keeping them lashed to reality as the world roiled around them. ‘Revival of a Friend’ is their collective testament to that process, an hour-long lesson in endurance that is years in the making. Inspired by the folk singing of their youth, the grit and grace of Joni Mitchell, the slowly spiraling dazzle of Duster, and the steady angularity and sudden snarl of Slint, ‘Revival of a Friend’ fully recognizes the arbitrary cruelty of individual existence and finds that some of the best ways beyond it are to share harmonies, a tangle of electric guitars, or a song that simply imagines hope somewhere on the other side. Methodically built over many years with longtime friend and trusted drummer Max Edelman, this is a poignant and gripping record about the pain of growing up and getting on with it.

However pervasive it is, grief is not the only takeaway on the album. Sinaiko, Thomson, and Edelman are still here, after all, in a great DIY rock band that is a gathering of best friends, having made a mighty record that encapsulates and so sublimates all this anguish. It feels especially relevant that it emerges as a work of friendship from the Bay Area, dominated in recent years not by stories of the arts but instead by technology and the inequality it has wrought there. ‘Revival of a Friend’ is rooted in personal hurts, but it feels like an invitation to band together and work through our pains as one, to share the burdens of the world until we can find a better way forward. This is not delusion; this is hope, as difficult and necessary now as ever.

A tour de force road trip from psych rock to country duets that never strays too far from the spaghetti western roots that inspired the band so many blood moons ago.

"There is undoubtedly something in the shaded sonics that Federale gathers around them, something in the resonating twang of the guitars, that blend of music created between pop and a hard place, both infectious and anthemic and that ornate, majestic vibe which hangs in the air above the song, that blend of groove and grandeur, muscle and melody, power and poignancy."

    w/ Small Paul

It’s obvious listening to Sarah Shook and the Disarmers’ clear-eyed, biting, and unafraid songs that integrity is the most important thing to the Chapel Hill, North Carolina, country-punk outfit. “A lot of artists are in this industry for fame, recognition, and money but those things don’t mean anything to me,” says bandleader River Shook. “Songwriting is it for me. It’s the only real healthy coping mechanism I've ever had. It’s life-saving. I don't care about any superficial things when I’m making a record.” On their resonant fourth album Revelations, produced by Shook and out March 29 via Thirty Tigers, these raw and resilient tracks come first. Throughout, Shook’s deft storytelling documents regular people getting by and keeping on, all presented without filter or pretension.

In 2022, Shook was remarkably productive. They released two albums: debut solo indie rock record Cruel Liars under the moniker Mightmare (Kill Rock Stars) and a third Disarmers full-length called Nightroamer (Thirty Tigers). Compared to every Disarmers record before that, which captured the in-the-room energy of the band with live recorded songs, the latter LP was instead more of a product of the studio with meticulous tracking sessions and an outside producer. While that effort was well-received, Shook believed the songs on Revelations deserved a more direct approach. “Since the Disarmers started in 2015, our strength has always been in our live performance,” says Shook. “To me, an album should capture the essence of a band. With this new set of songs that are all super special to me, I didn't trust anybody else to capture the songs and decide how to best serve each song.” Shook, who honed their production skills with their Mightmare LP and Izzy Ryder’s debut record, confidently took the reins during a blistering recording session, capturing 10 songs in two days.

For Shook, it was paramount the recordings match the band’s tangible live ferocity because these songs boast their most immediate lyrics yet. “All of my writing is autobiographical, and I write everything based on my observations and experiences,” says Shook. “But there was something about Revelations that felt more personal to me. I unlocked this level of honesty with myself and an ability to be more objective about the things I struggle with daily.” Take the title track, which finds Shook singing about the precariousness of navigating mental health under capitalism. Over a rollicking, twang-hued arrangement, they sing, “Black cloud followin' me around, little storm in my head / Some days I levitate off the ground, some days I can't get outta bed.” The track doesn’t preach or romanticize. Instead, it’s galvanizing and relatable.

As they celebrate the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut, Dengue Fever emerge with their most cohesive and immersive album to date. It’s been eight years since the release of The Deepest Lake; during this time new generations have been catching up to the same omnivorous music taste the band has practiced since its inception. Full-length number seven Ting Mong (September 15) captures yet another enthralling dimension of their genre-defying journey. A lot of groups working on their first new collection of songs in eight years would probably favour clamour and bombast - by contrast, Ting Mong seeks the sonic balm these times so desperately need.

Before the world went into full apocalypse mode, Dengue Fever were already looking for peace and quiet. Once the touring cycle of 2015’s The Deepest Lake was over, they were a band whose members needed time to focus on different ventures, whether those might be family or visual arts, session work or…metal detecting.

Never really on hiatus, band members were soon drawn back to each other. Ask them, and they’ll tell you that they are a band because they’re family first.

So they reconvened in 2019, rented a small cabin in the California desert near Joshua Tree, and converted it into a recording studio. They spent the day jamming and slept under the stars at night. Then, the pandemic hit, sending everyone into retreat. It was 2021 when Dengue Fever could meet in person again, and so they did: piecing together the many desert recordings they had, recording vocals, turning open jams into songs, casually reinventing their own music. They did a lot of writing, but also a lot of shredding. Of the 20 or so songs they ended up with, they only kept those that felt more natural and immediately fit in with Chhom Nimol’s one-of-a-kind vocal style. It had to be spontaneous. If in the past the band had extensively worked and reworked songs until they felt right for her, this time things simply had to come naturally. Tracks that sounded too tricky or had too many parts were swiftly scrapped. Dengue Fever were looking for a cohesive, mellow vibe. More than in the past, they set to play minimal, repetitive sounds, choosing nuance over intricate composition. And what they eventually emerged with was an album unlike anything else they had ever worked on. Ting Mong.

In Cambodian culture, a Ting Mong is an effigy of protection, a scarecrow-like figure usually placed at the entrance of a village or a home. It wards off diseases and evil spirits. We’re all in desperate need of a Ting Mong, band members occurred.

    Ty Walker

Ty Walker and the Humanoids are a band that claim to be from another galaxy, formed after frontman Ty Walker was abducted by a group of aliens who call themselves ‘The Humanoids’. Their genre-bending sound combines alt-country, art rock, soul, sampledelia and psychedelic rock. Known for their otherworldly live shows featuring interactive multimedia, they take audiences on a cosmic journey. To date, Ty and the gang have released their debut LP "Where the Hell is Roscoe?" and are gearing up for their second full-length release, "Home on the Strange," due out in Fall 2024.

    Izaak Opatz

Like many of his favorite songwriters (John Hartford, Lucinda Williams, Jeff Tweedy), Izaak Opatz is an ungulate in life’s winter pasture, chewing on and metabolizing disappointment, heartbreak, and the other tough stuff into enjoyable musical carbohydrates. A compulsive metaphorager (and inveterate wordplayboy), Opatz breaks it all down with enzymes of wry humor, thoughtful simile and close observation - a therapeutic process of narrativizing his own life that, almost as a byproduct, turns out savory nuggets of literate, confessional pop.

Where 2018’s Mariachi Static drew from Opatz’s fragmented love life as a seasonal Park Service employee and resonated especially with the sensitive dirtbag set, Extra Medium, his latest release, splits time between romantic Hindenburgs across his native Montana, up the East Coast, and in faraway Los Angeles. Montana and LA especially decorate the album, supplying wells of metaphor and scene-making, and as characters in their own right - LA’s alternately charming (“In the Light of a Love Affair”) and discomfiting (“East of Barstow”), and, in “Big Sandy”, Montana evolves from setting to subject as the girl’s feelings he traverses it to see prove less than his own feelings for the state.

In LA, Opatz learned from and worked alongside Jonny Fritz at Dad Country Leather, and met bandmates and Extra Medium collaborators Malachi DeLorenzo (drums, producer, engineer) and Dylan Rodrigue (multi-instrumentalist, producer). He now lives in Missoula, Montana, where he runs his own custom leather shop, is writing the next album, and pursuing a master's in journalism.

    Jack Habegger’s

Jack Habegger’s Celebrity Telethon is a group of rock and roll irregulars operating out of the sordid lounges and nightclubs of Portland, OR. Their acrid brew of influences emits top notes of first-wave punk, no-wave tumult, and seedy R&B, with a base note of mutant-flophouse country and western. But this is no rehashing of bygone genres du jour, but a rallying cry heard ‘round the greater Portland Metropolitan Area: can you dig it?

    JESSICA BOUDREAUX

When the beloved indie rock band Summer Cannibals disbanded in March 2023, frontwoman Jessica Boudreaux had no intentions of launching a solo career. After 10 years leading the Portland-based project, Boudreaux was eager to work on music beyond the band. The forced isolation of the pandemic meant more time in the studio, where she wrote songs for film and television including Oscar-nominated Nimona and Apple Tv’s City on Fire. As conditions improved, Boudreaux built out her own studio, Pet Club, and a small house for bands to stay in while she produced their records

But Boudreaux knows better than most that life is full of curveballs. In November 2020, Boudreaux was diagnosed with breast cancer and thrust into a maze of medical appointments and chemotherapy. Though Boudreaux was in remission by the summer of 2023, she was still dealing with the emotional fallout, leading her to embark on a transformative weeklong whitewater rafting excursion with fellow young adult cancer survivors. To her own surprise, Boudreaux returned from the trip with a “renewed excitement about life and expression,” she says. “There was a fire under my ass, and then I kind of accidentally wrote an album.”

That record is The Faster I Run, 12 taut and perceptive rock songs that burrow into your heart with casual virtuosity. Self-produced and recorded, this richly melodic solo debut is an invigorating testament to growth and the therapeutic power of art-making. “I know a lot more about myself now than I did when I was with Summer Cannibals and it was exciting to write because I suddenly have access to all these different parts of myself that I didn’t before,” Boudreaux says. “Every song was a necessary part of healing, it’s genuinely the most that I have leaned on music to work through things. The whole record reflects on my past through an entirely new lens.”

    BIJOUX CONE

Bijoux Cone is a musician, producer and visual artist based out of Portland OR. Her music explores themes of love, loss and identity paired with lush melodramatic synth pop and disco synth grooves. As a transgender woman, her music celebrates and defends queer and transgender perspective. Bijoux Cone performs and tours actively as both solo artist, as well as with a full backing band. Bijoux Cone's debut album "Magnetism" was released in February 2020 on LA based label Cleopatra Records. Her forthcoming sophomore album "Love Is Trash" is pending release October 20 via Literal Gold Records. Bijoux's live band includes/has included members of Reptaliens, Chromatics, The Gossip, Kyle Craft and Gary Wilson & The Blind Dates.

    ANNA DIEM

Anna Diem is a Portland OR based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, spending most of her time exploring the alt-pop genre.

She released her self-produced, sophomore album Hello Oregon 0n Nov 1, 2022. Which was warmly received by Willamette Week, describing it as "an ambitious collection with touches of alt-pop, queer pop, and even soul as it dips its toe into synth-kissed hip-hop waters.

    Etran de L’Aïr

Etran de L’Aïr (or “stars of the Aïr region”) welcomes you to Agadez, the capital city of Saharan rock. Playing for over 25 years, Etran has emerged as stars of the local wedding circuit. Beloved for their dynamic repertoire of hypnotic solos and sun schlazed melodies, Etran stakes out a place for Agadez guitar music. Playing a sound that invokes the desert metropolis, “Agadez” celebrates the sounds of all the dynamism of a hometown wedding.

Etran is a family band composed of brothers and cousins, all born and raised in the small neighborhood of Abalane, just in the shadow of the grand mosque. Sons of nomadic families that settled here in the 1970s fleeing the droughts, they all grew up in Agadez. The band was formed in 1995 when current band leader Moussa “Abindi” Ibra was only 9 years old. “We only had one acoustic guitar,” he explains, “and for percussion, we hit a calabash with a sandal.” Over the decades, the band painstakingly pieced together gear to form their band and built an audience by playing everywhere, for everyone. “It was difficult. We would walk to gigs by foot, lugging all our equipment, carrying a small PA and guitars on our backs, 25 kilometers into the bush, to play for free…there’s nowhere in Agadez we haven’t played.”

From the days of the Trans-Saharan caravan in the 14th century to a modern-day stopover for Europe-bound migrants, Agadez is a city that stands at the crossroads, where people and ideas come together. Understandably, it’s here where one of the most ambitious Tuareg guitar has taken hold. Agadez’s style is the fastest, with frenetic electric guitar solos, staccato crash of full drum kits, and flamboyant dancing guitarists. Agadez is the place where artists come to cut their teeth in a lucrative and competitive winner-take-all scene. Guitar bands are an integral part of the social fabric, playing in weddings, baptisms, and political rallies, as well as the occasional concert.

    Shop Regulars

After six years and seven self-released cassettes, the time has finally come for Shop Regulars to commit their singular vision to LP. The resultant, eponymously titled Shop Regulars is truly a distillation of concept and a beautiful example of what can happen when you patiently and consistently chip away at an idea over a long period of time.

Formed by Portland guitarist Matt Radosevich after the demise of his former outfit, the much-beloved Honey Bucket, Shop Regulars has developed into something of a local institution. More than one man’s vanity project, Radosevich is a band leader in the classic sense, recruiting a revolving door cast of friends to sit in for a while before shaking things up again. “Regulars” coming and going with the music serving as a hub around which they interact in myriad combinations.

Reared in Georgia and now settled in North Carolina, Jake Xerxes Fussell has established himself as a devoted listener and contemplative interpreter of a vast array of so-called folk songs, lovingly sourced from a personal store of favorites. On his latest album, When Im Called—his first LP for Fat Possum, and his first as a parent—Fussell returns to a well of music that holds lifelong sentimental meaning, loosely contemplating the passage of time and the procession of lifes unexpected offerings.

The album was produced by James Elkington and mixed by Tucker Martine. In addition to Elkington, it features the playing of Ben Whiteley (The Weather Station), Joe Westerlund (Bon Iver, Califone), and others. Blake Mills contributes guitars on several tracks. Joan Shelley and Robin Holcomb provide backing vocals.

“…Fussell is the rare contemporary to approach folk in its pure form, shunning self-penned compositions about bummer relationships to concentrate on material handed down from bygone, hardened times.” – The New Yorker

(Fussell) is one of the great magpies of American song, collecting forgotten, tarnished gems with a folklorists zeal… his renditions arent so much cover versions as composites…” – The Guardian

“…maybe the leading interpreter of American folk music right now.” – Ann Powers, NPR

Spooky Boys are Portland’s favorite indie/surf rock group known for their jangly dripping wet guitars, relentless driving rhythm, and insatiable catchy melodies. The ‘Boys bring a fun and undeniable charisma to their energetic shows that leave crowds no choice but to dance along.

    Salmon Doza

Growing up in San Jose, Sam Mendoza spent his early years surrounded by a foundation of multicultural music, with his father playing saxophone in salsa bands and a home-bound influence of genres spanning from Italian rock to bossa nova. During high school, Sam began performing original music more consistently with his high school experimental art rock group, Cactus.
After being accepted into University of Oregon’s jazz program for guitar, almost immediately  was formed, and since has become Eugene’s staple jazz/indie/emo fusion group, achieving feats such as EP releases and touring nationally. The group decided to take their talents to Portland to diversify their careers as individual musicians and with  .
Salmon Doza was conceptualized as Sam’s solo project during college, but really took form afterwards with the release of Maintenance produced by friend/collaborator Stefan Reichardt. The EP circled the meaning of familial bond and maintenance in one’s own life.

    Ragana

Ragana is a duo whose members alternate duties on drums, guitar, and vocals to produce some of the most unique and affecting dark music in metal today. The two-piece came together in 2011 in the DIY punk scene of Olympia, WA and are now based in Olympia and Oakland, CA. In their time together so far, Ragana have self-released 5 albums and teamed up with genre-favourite Thou for a split release in 2018. The following year, Ragana released their heralded We Know That the Heavens Are Empty EP and have quietly been working on new music ever since. The band signed with The Flenser in late 2022 and now announce their forthcoming debut LP for the label, Desolation’s Flower.

On Desolation’s Flower, Ragana draws upon a number of influences from the flora and fauna of their Pacific Northwest origins to the darkly nostalgic folk of Mt. Eerie and, yes, their Olympian forebears Wolves In The Throne Room, synthesizing them into an experimental, highly idiosyncratic take on black metal. Held together by an intense focus on raw emotion and haunting atmospherics, Ragana shifts seamlessly from tender, mesmerizing vocal harmonies to piercing, heart-ripping screams and back again, yielding music that is heavy, beautiful and punishing all at once.

    Agriculture

For something to be “ecstatic,” the feelings and emotions it evokes must transcend what we tend to experience most regularly in our lives. Ecstatic joy isn’t just happiness; it’s a feeling of jubilation which impacts us emotionally and in a metaphysical, arguably spiritual sense too. Although it has long been associated with connotations of the dark and macabre, extreme music has the ability to be a powerful mode of expression for these feelings of absolute bliss, overwhelming love, and awe-inspiring sublimity. Extreme emotions no less and those which black metal quartet Agriculture evokes with its ecstatic subversion of the subgenre’s tropes.

What was initially a meeting and subsequent series of jam sessions between Kern Haug and Daniel Meyer, two musicians in the Los Angeles underground noise scene, would eventually manifest as a shared vision to portray the sublimity of the human experience through the vehicle of heavy music. Following the additions of veteran guitarist Richard Chowenhill and bassist/vocalist Leah Levinson to the band’s lineup, this idea would crystalize into the “ecstatic black metal” backbone of Agriculture’s music, first heard on the band’s 2022 debut EP, The Circle Chant.
